Shadow Falls
My book takes place at a camp for “troubled” teens called shadow falls. The main characters are Kylie, Kylies mom and dad, Miranda, Della, Holiday, Lucas, Derek, and Trey. It is mostly about Kylie having to go to a summer camp because she is seeing ghosts and having weird dreams. At this camp she finds out that she is not a normal human. She also meets new people and finds a little romance. I chose this book because i am interested in fantasy stories that are unrealistic to happen. -
Event 1 - The Party
Kylie is going to an end of the school year party with her best friend Sara. At this party Kylie sees her ex Trey. She tries to avoid him, but she fails and runs into him trying to find Sara.The party was shut down by the police, and she had to go to the police station. Kylie called her dad since he said that he would always be a call away. Her mom showed up instead and Kylie didn't trust her dad anymore. This is a good start because it grabs your attention with a party and relating to teens. -
Event 2 - Arriving at Camp
Since Kylie has been seeing a ghost lately, her shrink thought it would be best to go to a summer camp. On her way to camp she meets some new people. They don't end up being normal humans as Kylie's suspects them and herself to be. He soon finds out that everyone at this camp is supernatural. She meets Miranda, Della, Derek, and Perry, who all have their own traits. She also runs into her old neighbor, Lucas, who killed her cat. I feel like they should describe how the characters look more. -
Event 3 - Meet Your Campmates With Derek
Kylie finds she has feelings for Derek, who is half Fae. He kind of reminds her of Trey, so she avoids him. That is until he gives blood to a vampire so that they can be together for the meet your campmates hour. They kiss and come across a water moccasin, and she freaks out til Derek touches her. He helps her calm down by using his powers. Kylie can feel him do this and thinks he may have altered her feelings to kissing him. I think it’s cute how Derek will do anything to spend time with Kylie. -
Event 4 - Meet Your Campmates With Lucas
On another meet your campmates hour, Kylie is matched up with Lucas, the werewolf. He plans on bringing her to see dinosaur tracks that are right outside the boundaries of the camp. On the way they come across a river that they have to cross. Kylie slips and fall on top of Lucas. They end up kissing until he hears someone coming. She can't decide whether she likes Lucas or Derek, and has feelings for both of them. I feel like this happens to a lot of teens so it connects to the real world. -
Event 5 - The Dream
Kylie woke up in a war scene, knowing it was a dream. In this particular dream, Kylie was not herself, but she was Soldier Dude. There was a woman screaming inside a cabin and Kylie went to look. There was a man killing the woman with a knife. She shot the man when a little boy came and shot Kylie. She was no longer in Soldier Dudes body, she was in her own watching him die. I think this is showing that Kylie is ready to take on her supernatural abilities by showing her the dream. -
Event 6 - Ignoring her True Self
Kylie never wanted to believe that she was supernatural. She was very sure that she was just a human. Holiday, one of the camp leaders, said she didn't have normal human brain patterns, and she was born at midnight. Both signs of being supernatural. Throughout the book she finds out more and more about what she may be, but she never gives in to being something other than herself. She never finds out what she is but knows that she isn't human. -
Event 7- Tiger
Kylie was at her cabin alone when she walked into her bedroom and saw a lion sitting on her bed. Since Perry was a shapeshifter, she assumed it was him. She started yelling at it telling it to leave until she saw Soldier Dude, the ghost that was following her around, appear in the corner to help. He helped calm her down until Derek showed up and got Kylie out of the bedroom. I believe this is a good part in the story because it creates climax and kylie speaks to Daniel Brighten, or Soldier dude. -
Event 8 - Saving the Camp
The camp is in danger of being shut down because animals are disappearing from the zoo, and the FRU thinks it the camp. Kylie and Derek are trying to save it and decide to use Derek's powers to talk to the lions. When they get to the zoo they’re attacked by the Blood Brothers, a vampire group, and figure out why the camp may be shut down. Its because Sky, one of the camp leaders, is helping rigues take animals from the zoo. This is a good way to end the book by having drama and a happy ending. -
Event 10 - Boarding School
It was the morning after Sky was arrested and everyone was in the dining hall for parents day, Holiday had an announcement for everyone, and it was that the camp would become a boarding school. Kylie was excited about this because she wouldn't have to worry about her mom or stepdad. Although, Kylie's mom was hesitant to letting kylie stay, because she knew Kylie belonged at home with her. I think Kylie's mom should let her stay so she can figure out what she is. -
Overall Thinking
Overall my book was very interesting. I liked it because I enjoy mystery and fantasy books, and it’s fun to think of how the world would be if it was all real. I plan on reading the other books in the series, and i would definitely recommend it to a friend. I would change the random parts with the parent because i feel like they don't fit.
