    Slavery started in what is now the United States in 1619. In that year, a load of slaves was dropped off in Jamestown, the first settlement in what is now the United States

    Congree legislates an end to bringing slaves into the states.

    The minstrel show, with it's black preformers, crude racial caricatures, and the song "jump jim crow" becomes apart of the american culture.

    The civil war ends bringing an end to slavery

    Southern states move to the "Jim Crow" system of segregation, passing laws to exclude African Americans from their everyday life. Radical violence and lynchings increase.
