    Phillis was born in May 8, 1753 and died in December 5, 1784. She died in her 30s in Boston, Massachusetts. Phillis Wheatley published her first poem in 1761. Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped at the age of 8 and brought to Boston on a slave ship. The slave owner’s wife, Susanna, and her children taught Phillis how to read and write.
