    The Continental Congress goes back to Betsy. They adopted this as the first flag of the United States.

    After making America's flag, Betsy continued to work in her upholstery business. She repaired uniforms for soldiers. She also made tents and blankets.

    Betsy Ross retires from her sewing business at age 76. She becomes blind in both eyes and can no longer work. One of her daughters takes over the business.
