Birth
Betsy Ross was born on Janurary 1, 1752. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Betsy lived there for most of her life. -
Sewing begins
When Betsy was younger she decieded to enter a sewing contest. She made a flag with the moon, the Liberty Bell, and ten start on it. She won third place. -
School
Betsy Ross began school. Since her family was Quakers she went to an all Quaker school. There she was appointed as an apprentince for upholstery. -
Married John Ross
Betsy Ross marries a man named John Ross. Her parents didn't want her to marry him, so she ran away with him and got eloped. They help up a upholstery shop together as well. -
John Ross dies
In late January John Ross died. He died from an explosion. This made Betsy Ross heart broken. -
Fighting Quakers
In late Febuary Betsy Ross joined a group. This group was called the "Fighting Quakers". Which is a group of Philadelphiaians who refused to be bound by the pacifism of the Quakers and participated in the Revalutionary War. -
Making the flag
In June Betsy Ross met George Washington, George Ross, and Robert Morris in spring to have a disscussion. This ended would eventually led to the making of the American flag. -
Joseph Ashburn
Soon after John Ross died Betsy Ross remarried. She ended uo marrying Joseph Ashburn. They had two daughters. -
Remarries John Claypoole
After Joseph Ashburn died, Betsy remarried again. She married a man named John Claypoole. They had three children. -
Passes down sewing
Betsy Ross decides to teach her five daughters to sew. She did this becasue she wanted her daughters to keep making American flags after she dies. -
Stops making flag
Betsy Ross decides to stop making American flags. She stops at the age of 75. Her daughters keep making the flags though. -
Death
At the age of 84 Betsy Ross passes away. Not by illness, just old age. She is buried at Free Quaker Burrial Ground.
