Belgium becomes one of the founding NATO members. Belgium agrees to help other NATO countries if necessary.

Becomes founder of the European Economic Community, a fore-runner of the European Union. Luxembourg decides to create a single economy for EEC members.

Benelux Union

Belelux countires: Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium join the European Union. The Benelux countries agree to collectivly decide laws with other EU countries.

Congo Independance

Belgian Congo gains independance. which led to the direct election of Kasa-Vubu their new president.

Beatrix becomes queen!

Queen Juliana steps down and Beatrix becomes queen of the Netherlands. During her reign a Dutch embassy in Jordan opened.

Maastritcht Treaty

Luxembourg adopts treaty, creating the European Union.

King Albert ll of Belgium

King Albert ll takes monarchy in Belgium. When Belgiums parliament couldn't decide on a government, King Albert II decided on the new government.

Prime Minister

Jean-Claude Juncker is elected as prime minister in Luxembourg.
This was a big deal because the people were very happy with him and liked how he ran the country.

Belgium Olympics

Belgian olympian, Fred Deburghgraeve wins olympic gold, and sets world record for the 100M breaststroke event.

Currency change!

Euro replaces the currency in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. This is important because it ties all the countries togther.
