    The first video game/video game console ever created! This was THE most influential event in video game history, considering it was the FIRST event in video game history. This was an even bigger pioneer to the Video Game industry because it was literally the FIRST VIDEO GAME CONSOLE IN EXISTENCE! Pong is on my top ten because it was the first video game console ever created! Pong was the thing everyone was talking about in the 70s,
  • elease of the Magnavox Odyssey (September 22nd, 1972)

    This was the first home video game console ever to be released in the market, making it a MAJOR pioneer in the video game industry, inspiring new companies to make theirs even better, and to top the current console. This console is in the top ten, because it was the first ever portable video game console that people could take with them and plug in anywhere.
  • Release of the Gameboy (April 21st, 1989)

    The Gameboy was the third best selling video game console in history. The invention of this console got many people into video games and the consoles that play them. The gameboy was also the first video game console that was portable and able to be played anywhere. Everywhere you went, there was at least a couple kids that had one of these in their little hands. And that being a huge influence on my opinion, that is why this revolutionary little console is on my list.

    Release of the game Doom - this was the original “first person shooter” game and was the first game that offered player versus player action that made it possible to play against a friend without being located in the same room together. Doom was frequently discussed in the media due to its graphic images of violence, but this resulted in the game becoming hugely popular.
  • Introduction of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (September 16th, 1994)

    Due to the popularity of graphic and violent games like Doom and Mortal Kombat, many game makers came together to start a rating system for games that is similar to movie ratings. This was a direct result of the negative press associated with game violence. The (ESRB) also is a very convenient tool for parents to see what kind of games they are playing and what games correspond with their age group.
  • Release of the Playstation 2 (March 4th, 2000)

    Release of the Playstation 2 - This console was the best selling console of all time, so it was a key point in the new age of digital games. It really pushed the production of consoles to be the best they could, setting the standards of newer consoles higher. The PS2 was also the first gaming console with a DVD drive that allowed storage space for very high resolution graphics, and for that, I think it definitely deserves a spot on my top 10 events.

    Insertion of Microsoft consoles - When Microsoft stepped into the video game console industry, they had a serious impact on the way people played games. Their consoles were innovative, new and sleek… everyone and their father wanted/had one of these. These consoles were so good and innovative, it pushed the now predecessor companies to create even better consoles to beat Microsoft, and just for the ability to stay in the top ten from 2001, all the way to 2017,
  • Release of the Nintendo Gamecube (November 18th, 2001)

    Release of the Nintendo GameCube - At the start of the new millennium, many new consumers flocked to this gaming console at hopes of finding something revolutionary, which they did! The Nintendo GameCube was, although, not the first console to include a DVD drive, but all of the GameCube's game discs, were small compared to a normal DVD!
  • Launch of Xbox Live (November 15th, 2002)

    Launch of Xbox Live - While several games already had support for online interactions between players, Xbox Live was the first central hub for the game player community. Xbox Live allowed players to communicate directly outside of game play, had a worldwide leader-board, and allowed the purchase of new games without having to visit a store. With the launch of Xbox Live, it brought friends and family together to play their favorite games at the comfort of their own homes separately.

    Release of the Nintendo Wii - this was the video game console that greatly expanded the age range of video game players by introducing highly intuitive controls and simple, family friendly graphics.
