    The Battle of Fort Sumter
    The Confederate troops opened fire on a Union armorey on April 12. The Union soliders inside the fort were unable to respond with fire of thier own. On April 13, at 2:30 pm, Major Anderson surrenderd the fort. This was the first battle of the Civil War, and with only 4 injuries/casualties, prehaps the least costly battle of the War. The Confederates captured the fort succsesfully.
  • The Battle of Bull Run

    The first major battle of the War, in which to green Union Soliders were quickly defeated.
  • The Battle of Vicksberg

    The Battle of Vicksberg
    Considered "one of the most brilliant military campaigns of the War" this battle spread from May 18th to July 4th, with 19,223 estimated casualties,
  • The Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg
    The turning point in the war, occured July 1-3rd, Gen. Robert E. Lee attempted to invade the north, (for the second time) but was defeated by the Union troops who held their position. This was also one of the most famous battles of the War, prompting the Gettysburg Address.
  • The Battle of Atlanta

    In this battle alone, the estimated casualties were 12,140 total (US 3,641; CS 8,499) In this battle, the Union was victorius.
  • Battle of Appomattox Court House

    Battle of Appomattox Court House
    The Confederates, led by Gen. Robert E. Lee, tried to advance on Union troops in front of the Appomattox Court House. This was done in a last attempt to escape the union as they advanced upon the Confederate troops. However, the Union infantry stopped the attempt. Lee surrenered to Grant on April 9th. This was the last engaement of the war in Virginia. The Union won.
