Charter of 2nd Bank in 1816
This charter was put in place for the second bank. The second bank however was unpopular among the people AND among the bankers since it had a tight hold on the countries credit and currency. -
Bank opens
After the charter was set in place in 1816, even though many individuals resented the creation of another bank, the bank officially opened in January of 1817 in Philadelphia. However, structure and function of the bank was fairly similar to its predecessor. -
Jackson in Florida
On December 27th 1817, Andrew Jackson arrived in Florida to stop raids by Indians, fugitive slaves, and white outlaws. . -
McCulloch v. Maryland
In this case the Court was deciding if the creation of a bank was constitutional or not. This also limited the states ability to tax as the federal government were the only ones who had the right to tax. -
Government Money
Andrew Jackson fires his Secretary Of Treasury because because the refused to withdraw money that was stored in the government bank and put it in the state banks. The money however was moved anyway which caused the bank to shrink tremendously in popularity, and in size. -
Federal Deposits
The U.S. voted on harshly criticizing Andrew Jackson for his decision to withdraw money from the government banks. They also pointed out the fact that he gave himself implied powers when he didn't have the powers he thought he did. His acts were deemed unconstitutional nor did the laws or Constitution give him those powers in the first place. -
The election of 1836
The Presidential Election of 1836 is held and Martin Van Buren wins the election by a majority vote. -
Election of 1840
The election of 1840 ended in Whig becoming victorious instead of Van Buren. This election was also an attempt at getting the current democrats in the White House out.
