Blum and Basil did not agree on a lot of things so Blum resigned from the company. later on driving Massine to leaving the company.

After the split the two had a law-suit battle over the owner ship of the name Ballet Russe and the dances.

Massine won the company name, Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlos. Basil changed the name of the company to The Original Ballet Russe. But Massine also lost his choreography to all his dances.

In 1938 both companies were ready to perform. But Massine had no rights to his choreography. And had to create 3 new ballets.

Britain and France declared war on Germany in 1939.The russian dancers were able to get on a boat going to america escaping the war. Both companies traveled on the boat.

Sol Hurok took both stranded companies and found work for both of them in America

Hurok abandoned the companies and the dancers started to leave and go to other dance schools.Nov 1948 was the company’s last performance.
