The start of ballet
In the 1500 century a noble Italian lady Catherine de’medici was crowned queen of France. She created ballet for her enjoyment and called it “le ballet comique de la reine.” This was the first ever ballet. -

Louis XIV rekindles created a ballet school for students to train and learn ballet. -

The creation of tutus and ballet slippers
Dancers started performing in public theaters. The first recitals were performed in floor length costumes that limited movement for a dancer. Marie Camargo took over taking costumes and made ankles visible and added tights to show leg shapes. She also created the ballet slippers. -

Chorographer Jean-Georges Noverre made chorography not only about showing emotions but telling a story. -
Pointe shoes invented
Pointe shoes were invented inspired by the romantic time. With this invention also came about the name prima ballerina. -
Russian ballerinas
Pepita brought the title of ballet capital of the world of Russia. He trained large numbers of dancers who perform famous ballets as sleeping beauty, Giselle and Swan Lake. -
Contemporary
People started to complain about not having the perfect body for ballet so they danced bare foot. This is when the type of dance contemporary was invented. -

Different styles of ballet came about such as Danish, royal etc. -
Ballet as we know it
Ballet has stayed the same and has become more popular as it is the foundation of dance.
