    -Many of Australia’s Infantry Birgades landed on Lemnos wich was 96 kilometeres from the Gallipoli peninsula, in Turkey. They were there to be part of an occupation report, if the Navy succeeded in taking the forts along the Dardanelles. -A group of ANZACSS at the Lemnos base.

    -The British and French warships were unable to silence the Turks at the forts at Dardanelles. When it was decided that the allied forces would invade the Gallipoli peninsula, the ANZACS were told to take part in it.

    -The 3rd Australian Brigade, 9th (Queensland), 10th (Western Australia) and 12th (Tasmania south Australian) Battalions and the 3rd field ambulance arrived in Gallipoli between 4:30 and 4:45, the rest of the Anzac corps arrived and different times throughout the day. Depite multiple attacks from the Turks Australia still held a good portion of land.

    -By on 3am the were already more than 1700 casualties had been evacuated from the ANZAC landing, manly via Ari Burnu, wich was named ANZAC cove.

    -The Gascon was the first hospital ship to evacuate wounded ANZACS, of the 548 casualties transported, 14 people dies on the trip, which took one and a half days.

    -Anzac cove was getting shelled by the Turks from a new position, behind their lines. The Australians reffered to this battery as ‘Beachy Bill’, it was said to have caused of 100 casualties.

    -The Turkish positions at Krithia in the British area at Helles were attacked by the Australian 2nd brigade, and the 5th,6th,7th and 8th Battalions. The attack was unsuccessful.

    -A party from the 15th battalion (Queensland) left in the night and captured the Turkish tench right infront of Quinn’s post. They drove back with many men wounded, from them running from the Australian line.

    -Due to the smell of rotting bodies, Atruce was made to allow the Turks to bury their dead in no man’s land between the trenches.

    -A pier was built at ANZAC cove for landing stores and equitment. It was built by the 2nd Australian field company and Royal Australian Engineers. It was named Watson pier, after the Major S H Watson, he supervised the construction.

    Sickness Spreads
    -the assistant director of medical services, reported on the 1st Australiand divisions mens health and well being 6 days before they were set to take part in the taking of a major offensive assault. Howse said that the constant strain, lack of water, and climatic conditions together with the diarrhoea that was causing anemia meant that thirty percent of men were unlikely to be able to participate in the assault.

    August Assault
    -The august offensive began at 5:30pm, it started with units from the 1st division attacking then trenches at lone pine, the Turkish front line fell to the Australians, although, the Turkish put up some fierce counter attacks.
    The regiments of the New Zealand Mouned Rifles attacked the valley leading up to the hieghts, thanks to them the
    Brigades could start making their way up these valleys to attack the hieghts.

    -at 4:30am four waves of men from the 3rd Australian Light force were unsuccessful when they attempted to Quinns post and Popes post. New Zealand and Indian units attempted to attack Chunuk Bair, but were unable to capture the peak. And the British failed to make progress in suyla.

    A Miracle on the Battlefield
    -On this day, a so called miracle happened to a lucky soldie of the 28th battalion. Private G J Owen was in his trenching watching the enemy line when he felt something hit his chest. It turns out that the bullet penetrated his coat ,jacket and wallet. The bullet harmlesly lodged it self into a small bible he always carried with him.

    -After the evacuation,the ANZAC troops celebrated chritmas away from home.Major Ernest Harris had this to wwrite about it:“Each man was given a ‘Christmas Billy’ — and I can assure you they opened them as eagerly as children at home do open their Christmas stockings … Just one thing hurt very much, it was the picture on the outside of the billy, showing a Kangaroo on the map of Gallipoli, with his tail knocking a Turk into the sea and underneath the words ‘THIS BIT OF THE WORLD BELONGS TO ME"
