    During this day the heir to the throne was shot by Gavrillo princip. The was killed along with his wife, soon this sparked the beginning of World War 1.

    The British empire declaress war against the germans. During this time the Australians began volentering to participate in the war. " When an empire is at war, so also is Australia" Joseph Cook.

    Within Days of the Announcment the British, Australiasn and New Zeaaland began recruiting men for the war. It was expected that an army of 18 000 men would be proposed, consisting 12 000 men from Australia and 6 000 from New Zealand. Although people who are willing to participate must be able to follow the fitness guidlines. Though recruitment troops reached over 400, 000 but after the war many casualities or dissappearances affect this number.

    During the Battle, the Australian were spared from particippating since it was a disasteruos battle on the first day. the 5th division took flanking position. In a single day there were already casualitites of over 5,000. The German used artillary and machine gun fire which resulted in heavy casualities of the troops.

    During the battle of Romani the 1st and 2nd lighthorse brigades took part in the battle which was held in a nearby town from eygpt.

    During March 1917, Australian Divions Pursued the Germans and took hold of the town Bapaume. though the assualt on the Hindenburg line resulted in disaster with many casualitis and troops taken prisoner by the germans.
