Ptolemy did not believe in the idea that the Earth moved. He said the Earth was spherical and thought everything moved towards the Earth's center. He claimed the moon, sun, planets, and stars move around the earth at various rates of speed.

Copernicus belived that Earth and the other planets revolve around the sun. He thought the sun was motionless. We now know that Copernicus was partially correct. He has been called the "Father of modern Astronomy."
