I remember how excited I was coming home to tell my Mom I finished an entire book by myself. -
This was the first time I read a book that included my culture. I remember the excitement of bringing it home to read to my family. -
In 3rd grade, I took my first standardized test and was accepted into my school's GATE program. -
This was my first film to movie release and I'll never forget the feeling of watching what I've read come to life on the big screen. It was truly magical! -
I discovered spoken word poetry and started writing my own poems. The teen angst was real and poetry gave me an outlet to release everything I was feeling -
I really enjoyed Seventeen magazine and would flip through the pages over and over again. During this time I was sure I was going to be a journalist or editor when I grew up. -
I'm pretty sure I finished book 1 in a day and the rest of the series within a week. I wish I could go back and read them all over again for the first time. -
I was chosen to read a passage at my high school graduation. It was my first time reading in front of such a large group but prepared me for my speech classes in college. -
With the birth of my first child, I dived nose-deep into parenting books and to this day I swear by Harvey Karp's The Happiest Toddler on the Block and recommend it to all of my parents. -
I'm a huge advocate for literacy in early childhood education. I believe reading is the key to closing the achievement gap in ECE and encourage all my parents to read to their children from the very beginning.
