At only 4 months old, my mother started to read to me. The first book she ever read to me was "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and continued to read it to me every Christmas since.
-
My mom wasn't the only one who read to me constantly as a child. My dad would read to me over and over my favorite book when I was 2 years old, "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly".

This was the first year of the 1st book through the Disney Fairies Series ("Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg" by Gail Carson Levine) that came out when I was in 3rd grade. My mom got it for me for my birthday and we've been reading each book that comes out ever since along with my younger sisters. You're never too old to read a fairytale.

When I was in 3rd grade I was put into a extra reading class where my reading teacher, Mrs. Sharpiro, helped me write and publish an original poem within a book about my little sister.

Even though I grew up with so much reading in my life, while in Elementary school I was a little behind. My 4th grade teacher put me in a reading group where I met my soon-to-be 5th grade teacher Mrs. Smead. In her reading group I read my very first chapter book all by myself, "Lily's Crossings" by Patricia Reilly Giff.

My first year of middle school my entire English class was required to read one of my favorite books to this day, "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. My sisters read it when they went to middle school too.
-
Another book that was required to read in my 7th grade English class was "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. This book specifically is still my favorite book to this day. When a movie came out I definitely fan-girled so hard.

I had a really hard time in middle school, so I decided to audition and got accepted into a magnet school (Las Vegas Academy of Arts) for my freshmen year of high school. There I took a class that required the class to read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" by Sean Covey. This book literally changed my life and really helped shape the person I am today.
-
After my freshmen year of high school, I transferred to Green valley High school where I read my second favorite book, "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I was so interested in the fiction events in the book that were related to the real-life experiences during the Holocaust.
-
At the end of my high school days I decided to finally read the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I have always loved Harry Potter from the movies, but I never really knew what true love was until I read the book series.

Reading books have taken a huge impact on my life. With my parents, all the teachers, and the several of books I've read up until this point have influenced the person I am today as well as my future career as an English teacher. I want to help students love the joy of reading as much as I did as a child.
