    Introduction of Asian Artifact Timeline

    The theme for this timeline is Asian Artifacts:Unveiled. The idea in this project is to inform of the variety of Asian pieces and how they relate to each other. This project is informing the audience the importance of gods in the Asian culture and how it is shown in artwork, sculptures, currency etc. My collection includes Tibetan silver coins, miniature portraits, porcelain flasks and bronze sculpture. The common trend between these artifacts is art and culture within the Asian religion.

    This flask is created by Chinese porcelain and poetry techniques. The bright white and blue body was very popular for European prince collectors.The Portuguese were the first to export it in its trade links with India, America and Europe.

    This array of paintings came from an album given as a gift to foreign visitors in India. These paintings were usually of kings, princes and couriers and depicted Hindu gods and daily life.

    Bronze Figure- 1700 AD
    Padma Sambhava is one of the biggest figures in Tibetan Buddhism. He is revered for bringing Tantric Buddhism to Tibet from northern India in the late eighth century AD. He is particularly venerated by the oldest schools of Tibetan Buddhism, the Nyingma-pa, who view him as a 'second Buddha'. He is remembered in Tibet as an exorcist of both demons and the enemies of Buddhism. The tradition of turning native Bon deities into protectors of Buddhism began with this figure.

    Tibetan Silver Coin 1720 AD
    This silver coin has Chinese print on one side and a Tibetan print on the other side. The Chinese side reads ‘Qian long bao zang’, arranged around the square hole. ‘Qianlong’ refers to the reign of the Chinese emperor Qianlong (1736-95), and baozang tells us that it was made in Tibet. It is noted that it is interesting that the square hole was created but never punctured all the way through. While minting the coins there was trouble with striking but was quickly resolved with the "OK" of Chinese

    In conclusion, the Asian culture is one that provides a lot of history in this artifacts. The culture of the Asian region is one that focuses on art, culture, history and gods. Between the beautiful sculptures, currency, paintings or pottery, many who study this topic can agree and conclude that the culture is beautiful. As the viewer looks through these images of artifacts, I would like for you to think of and hear the story of the Asian culture through trade religion and art.
