In 1882, Jews began returning to their homeland in Palestine, continuing to claim that it is their God-given sacred land. Palestinians were afraid that the Jews were coming to rule over Palestine with the support of other stronger countries. -
Conflict
Because of this declaration by the British government, many Jews from around the world began moving back into Palestine. As this happened, tensions between Jews and Palestinians increased. By 1929, 133 Jews and 116 Arabs had been killed in riots and attacks. -
Jews get a homeland
Nations decided to split the land into a Jewish part, a Palestinian part, and decided to control the capital city of Jerusalem themselves. Jews rejoiced that they got a country of their own and Palestinians were furious that their homeland was divided.
