    This law prohibited blacks from owning and renting land that was outside the designated land reserves.

    This law made local authorities responsible for the black residents in its area. The 'Native advisory boards' regulated the influx control and removed those who were not employed in the area.

    This Act provided for job reservation. Black were excluded from membership of registered trade unions and black trade unions were prohibited.

    Immorality Act No. 5
    Whites and blacks could not partake in extra-marital intercourse. The act was extended in 1950 to include coloreds and Asians.

    Representation of Blacks Act No. 12
    This act removed black voters in the Cape from the common roll and put them on a separate roll. The blacks in the union were then represented by four white senators.

    This act prohibited any marriage between whites and members of any other racial group. The act made it so that whites could only marry other whites.

    Population Registration Act No. 30
    This act required people to be identified and registered from birth as one of four racial groups. This act proved to be more rigid than other race classification laws.

    Group Areas Act No. 41
    This act declared areas for exclusive use of one particular racial group. It became compulsory for people to live in an area designated for their classification group.

    Black Education Act No. 47
    This act formalized segregation of black education and laid the foundations for Bantu Education.
  • Blacks (Prohibition of Interdicts) Act No. 64

    Blacks (Prohibition of Interdicts) Act No. 64
    This act prohibited Africans from obtaining a court interdict to suspend the operation of any banishment order pending an attack on the validity of any such order.
