  • The Natives Land Act

    The Natives Land Act
    Passed to set aside fertile lands for the white population and left only 7% of the land to native population even though they made up 67% of the total population.
    This was the first major law that territorially segregated the South African population.
  • The Immorality Act

    The Immorality Act
    Was to prohibit extramarital affairs between black and white South Africans.
    This was to segregate them intimately and help decrease the the births of interracial children
  • The Representation of Natives Act

    The Representation of Natives Act
    This removed blacks from the common roll and moved them to their own roll. Also, this made it so that 4 non-black senators would represent the interests of them.
    This marked the start of the progression of the removal of black African voting rights and equal representation
  • The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act

    The Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act
    Prohibited interracial marriages, including pre-existing ones.
    It was meant to further separate black and white South Africans intimately and decrease interracial births.
  • The Group Areas Act

    The Group Areas Act
    Established areas for specific racial groups. These groups were intended to be given independent control of their own government in these 'homelands'.
    This was to further physically and socially separate the South Africans
  • The Population Registration Act

    The Population Registration Act
    This required Black Africans to be separated into 4 specific groups, which later increased into 8 different groups.
    This limited the identities of people down to their skin tone and racial traits.
  • The Black and Bantu Authorities Act

    The Black and Bantu Authorities Act
    Created tribal authorities for the new "homelands".
    This justified these territories as independent homelands, however, the South Afrian government retained control over these leaders,
  • The Native Laws Amendment Act

    The Native Laws Amendment Act
    This required black Africans to carry passbooks when traveling at all times, which contained extensive information about the individual.
    This was created to track and restrict their travel, and made it so that they had to recieve approval in order to travel. They also could be subjected to police seaches at any time.
  • The Criminal Law Amendment Act

    The Criminal Law Amendment Act
    Stated that the resistence to the Apratheid Laws would result in a three year punishment.
    This gave the government the authority and power to punish anyone who defied the Apratheid legislature. The creation of this act sought to eliminate those who would object the Aparthied and potiential rebellions
  • The Black Education Act

    The Black Education Act
    Officially segregated the South African educational system and established a separate system for the Bantustans.
    By doing this the government could manipulated the truth and suppress ideas influence by rebel movements
