Nelson Mandela was arrested and alot of other people for fighting against apartheid.... -
March 21, 1960
Black people were required to carry passbooks. The passbooks were filled with their personal informantion such as name, date of birth, and pictures. When some protestors show up at the police station with out their books their becomes a riot and kills 69 people :'( -
Rhodesia illegally gains independence from Great Britain
Rhodesia has gotten away from Great Britain and white people will take over the government and blacks were only given a little power to the government. -
More than 600 students are killed in the Soweto Massacre.
High school students in Soweto start to protest for an better education system for blacks. The Police come with tear gas and bullets, killing more than 600 people. -
Anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko is killed
Steve was a protestor and he got arrestested August 18th. He dies in police custody because of severe brain damage (beaten by the police.) -
South Africa is expelled from the United Nations
South africa is removed from the United nations. South Africa is not allowed back in the United Nations until Apartheid ends.
