The Magna Carta was created to stop Kings from abusing their power. The Magna Carta established that the power of the monarchy was not absolute and guaranteed trial by jury and due process of law to the nobility. -
The Jamestown Settlement
The Virginia Company of England made a daring proposition:
sail to the new, mysterious land, which they called Virginia in honor of Elizabeth I, and began a settlement.The stablished Jamestown, Virginia, on May 14, 1607, the first permanent British settlement in North America. -
The Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower reached the Cape COd coast of America.The Pilgrim leaders [ersueded 41 of the male adults aboard the ship to sign an agreement which would set up a government in Plymouth Colony. The agreement was called the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact was the first written framework of government established in what is now the United States. -
The Petition of Rights
The Petition of Rights is a statement of civilliberties sent by the English Parliament to Charles I. Refusal by Parliament to finance the king's unpopular foreign policy had caused his government to exact forced loans and to quarter troops in subject houses as an economy measure. -
The English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights is an act that the Parliament of England passed on December 16, 1689. The BIll creates separation of powers, it limits the power of the king and queen, enhances the democratic election and bolsters freedom of speech. -
The Albany Plan of Union
The Albany Plan of Union was a proposal to create a unified government for the Thirdteen Colonies, suggested by Benjamin Franklin, then a senior leader and a delegate from Pennsylvania, at the Albany Congress in July 10, 1754 in Albany, New York. The Albany Plan of Union was a plan to place the British North America colonies under a more centralized government .On July 10, 1754, representatives from seven of the colonies adopted the plan. -
The Stamp Act Congress
"No taxation without representation!"
The Stamp Act Congress was a meeting held between Octuber 7 and 25, 1765 in New York City, consisting of representatives from some of the British colonies in North America; it was the first gathering of eleced representatives from several of the American colonies to devise a unified protest against new British taxtation.
