    Battle of New Orleans
    In 1815, General Andrew Jackson and his troops defeated the British at New Orleans, heavily boosting American pride and "winning" the war for the U.S.
  • Election of 1824

    Election of 1824
    In the presidential election of 1824, Jackson recieved the popular vote and the majority of electoral college votes, but still lost the election to Adams, which infuriated Jackson and his party. In return for Adams giving Clay a spot in office, Clay gave Adams his vote. This was known as the corrupt bargain.

    During Jackson's presidency, he appointed all his loyal followers and friends into office giving the common man even greater power in the gov't and ensuring Jackson had full control of the U.S.

    During Jackson's presidency, he created what was called the Jacksonian Democracy giving the common man power by giving ALL white males suffrage.

    In 1830, under the precidency of Andrew Jackson, congress passed the Indian Removal Act, allowing for the removal of Southern Native tribes East of the Mississippi against their will.

    In 1832, Samuel Worcester was convicted of a crime in native territory in Georgia. Due to his crime occuring in native territory, he was not convicted. States had no jurisdiction in native country.

  • Trail of Tears

    In 1838, following the Indian Removal Acts, Southern native tribes were forced to give up their land and migrate along the "Trail of Tears" to Oklahoma in the winter. About 1/4 of the natives died along the way. This group of natives were mainly Cherokee.
