    As a young boy Jackson enlisted in the reveloutinary army. Over time he became a brave military leader and got the nickname "Old Hickory" for his toughness. He led many victories against the british in the war of of 1812.

    The battle of New Orleans was the last battle that occured in the war of 1812. The British had planned to attack New Orleans and burn it down, however one army stood in there way. Andrew Jackson was the commander at this great battle and led his troops aginst the British. The fight was Oustounding leaving 400 british dead and only 3 americans. Howver little did they know that 2 weeks before the fight an agreement had been made to end the war.

    The election of 1824 was named the "courupt baragin". The cannidats in this election were Henery Clay, Sam Adams, Andrew Jackson and Willimam Crawford. It got the name "Courupt Bargain" after Jackson won the Popular vote, but not the elctorial vote. It is belived that William Craford and Sam Adams bribed the Electorial College to vote in their favor and that they did. So Sam Adams became President and Andrew Jackson would have to wait another 4 years for his turn in office!

    The Nullification Crisis occured when congress put a a tarrif on all foregin goods. This upset the southerners so much that South Carolina threatend to leave the union. Finally Henry clay came up with yet another compromise to lower the tarrif. This move was accepted by congress and put in to place in 1832.

    Gerogia passed a law saying that all indians who lived in state boundries were forced to follow state laws, even though the Cherrokess had a promise from the national government that they were not forced to follow state laws. After a long battle in the Supreme Court the judges ruled in Gorgia's favor.

    The United States drove 15,000 Cherokee men, women and children west of the mississippi into Indian territory. The journey left 4,000 Indians dead and the route they took later became known as the "trail of tears".
