Election of 1828
From Oct 31 to December 2, 1828. 11th quadrennial presedential election. It featured a re-match between Jonh Q. Adams and Andrew Jackson. It ended with an outcome of Andrew Jackson becoming president. -
Indian Removal Act
May 28, 1830. The law authorized the president to negotiate with southern Indian tribes for their removal to federal territory west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their ancestral homelands. -
Worcester vs. Georgia
March 3, 1832. Worcester argued that the state could not maintain the prosecution because the statute violated the Constitution, treaties between the United States and the Cherokee nation, and an act of Congress entitled "an act to regulate trade and intercourse with the Indian tribes." Worcester was convicted and sentenced to "hard labour in the penitentiary for four years." The U.S. Supreme Court received the case on a writ of error. -
Bank War
Began on 1829 and ended on 1837. Developed over the issue of rechartering the Second Bank of the U.S. during the Andrew Jackson administration. -
Nullification Crisis
South Carolina declared that the federal Tariffs of 1812 and 1833 were unconstitutional and therefore null and void within the sovereign boundaries of the state.
