Jackson joins the Military
At the age of 13 Andrew Jackson Joins the militia as a courier. During this time he was fighting in the american revolution war. He and one of his brothers were taken prisoners, by the british. -
Jackson defends New Orleans
When the British threaten New Orleans Andrew Jackson took command of the defenses. He was strict but the troops liked him. This was were he aquired the nick name "Old Hickory", because he was tough as old hickory. -
Defeated the Creeks
The Creek Indians controlled present day Alabama, and Georgia. They controlled this land until 1814 when Andrew Jackson pushed them off the land. After doing this he was appointed Major General. -
Jackson lead an Attack on the Seminoles
Jackson served in the military again during the Seminole War. During this time the Seminoles attacked Jackson's troops. While Jackson's troops were being attacked he burned the Seminole village to the ground. -
Election of 1824
Jackson was nominated president in 1824. No candidate had the majority of the votes the House of Representatives got to choose who the next president was. The House choose Adams, this was denouced by Jackson supporters. -
Elected President
In 1828 Jackson was again nominated for president. He was elected president and for his Inauguration invited the public in to the White House. The crowd of people got out of control and his guards could not keep people out of the White House. -
Indian Removal
The Indian Removal Act was signed in to law in 1830. This law forced the Indians to live by US law or leave. This law effected the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminoles the most. -
Jackson was Attacked
This was the first presidential attack in history. The attacker appeared to strike the president, then ran. He was chased by several of Jackson's party members. -
Assassination attempt on Jackson
This was the first assassination attempt in history. The assasssin had two pistols, each of them misfired. Jackson was not harmed. -
Pays off National Debt
President Andrew Jackson was the only president to pay off the entire national debt. This is the only time in history that this was accomplished. However the debt increased to 3.3 million by 1838. -
