    Jackson was born on the western frontier of the Carolinas. In the latter year he was captured by the British. Mother and two brothers died during the closing years of the war. He Later studied law in an office in Salisbury, North Carolina, and was admitted to the bar of that state in 1787.

    Jackson lost the presidential election in 1824. He did win a 42% percent of the popular vote and like 99 electoral votes. Jackson didnt have the required majority so it went to the house and Henry Clay was Speaker of the house, which gave him alot of the power. In December Jackson won the election in a landslide. The count was 178 to 83 electoral votes.
