    Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi emerged as an educational reformer. He believed that education should be designed to strengthen each student's individual abilities. Many of his pedagogical beliefs have been adopted into modern education today. He believed that education should incorporate the arts and emotion, and that instruction should slowly transition from the "familiar" to the "new" and proceed gradually as children develop.

    Morgan McCall Jr., Michael Lombardo, and Ann Morrison conducted research developed the 70-20-10 Framework and conclude that 70% of learning takes place through experience, 20% through social learning/interactions, and only 10% takes place formally in classes. This framework has been used to help educators design meaningful lessons that enable learners to retain information on a deeper level.

    The IPromise School is opened in Akron, Ohio by basketball superstar Lebron James guaranteeing free education to 240 at risk third and fourth graders. The school is a partnership between the Lebron James Family Foundation and the Akron Public Schools. Notably, students who graduate and meet specific standards may qualify for a full scholarship to the University of Akron, through the LeBron James Family Foundation.
