The Treaty of Paris ends the French - Indian War. English were in debt, so they decided to try and tax the colonists because of the war. France gave up all their territories in mainland America. Getting rid of threat to the English colonies there.

Required Colonists to pay a tax on every piece of paper, license, newspaper, document, and many more things that are made of paper. The Colonists disliked the tax very much and the British saw it as a way to raise money from their debts.

They were being taxed by the council, to pay for provisions, and barracks. Provide food and housing for the British.

Put taxes on imports, money, and materials. Britain passed a series of 4 laws declaring it's authority over the colonies. The colonists reacted by protesting and saying "Taxation without representation".

Tensions between the British and Colonists escalated leading to the battle of Bunker Hill, June 17th Thomas Gage a commander for the British led British soldiers toward Boston harbor for an assault. The Colonists caught word of it and hastily built fortification but eventually still lost the fight due to inexperienced men, and a smaller number of men than the British.

Morale in the Continental Army was destroyed after the Battle of White Plains. George Washington and his men retreated to NJ. On the night of Christmas Washington had devised a plan to lead his men across the frozen river of Delaware and march into Trenton where they caught 1,500 British troops off guard and fought them. Eventually winning the fight with only just 5 casualties on the Colonist's side and 905 casualties on the British.

1 week and 2 days after The Battle of Trenton. The battle of Princeton only began because of the 2 armies unexpectedly stumbling upon each other. Charles Mawhood, a British commander was marching his unit up to Trenton to be stationed there but then found the Colonists instead. That day the Colonists had won the battle with only 75 casualties whilst the British had just about 270.

After this battle, it had lifted the morale of patriotism in the colonists in hopes of gaining independence. Strategists for the British wanted to attack NY with 3 different armies. General Horatio a Colonist, had built great defenses on Bemis Heights, across from the Hudson River where the British troops were coming from. But unfortunately the Colonists held it off well and the British were defeated.

George Washington had moved his army to the winter barracks in Valley Forge, even though Washington had won the battle at Saratoga he had lost many prior and some after. When his army just started to march his men were succumbing to cold, hunger, fatigue, and low morale once again. Despite the conditions and being 20 miles away from British-occupied Philadelphia, this was an accomplishment for the Colonist's military experience.
