  • French and Indian War

    This was also known as the Seven Year's War, this New World conflict marked another chapter in the long imperial struggle between Britain and France. France's expansion into the Ohio River valley brought conflict with the claims of the British colonies which lead to a series of battles. (WORLD WAR II, BIGGEST WAR IN HISTORY AND LASTED 6 YEARS)
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Issued by King George III following Great Britain's acquisition of French Territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War. Which forbade all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains.
  • The Sugar Act

    Also known as the American Revenue Act, imposed a tax of sox pence per gallon of molasses, had never been effectively collected due to colonial resistance and evasion.
  • The Stamp Act

    Passed by the British Parliament. The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on ever piece of printed paper they used. Legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications etc. were taxed
  • Quartering Act

    A name given to a minimum of two acts of British Parliament in the local governments of the american colonies to provide the British soldiers with any needs.
  • Boston Massacre

    The killing of five colonists by British regulars. Culmination of tensions in the American colonies that have been growing since royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts to enforce the heavy tax burden imposed by the Townshend Acts. (PROTESTS IN CHARLOTTE)
  • Townshend Act

    A series of acts passed. Collected revenue by putting custom duties on imports (NC GOVERN SIGNS THE H2 BILLS)
  • Boston Tea party

    Shortly after the "massacre" the Townshend Acts were repealed (except for the duty on tea) and tensions subsided. In the Boston Tea Party, they raided ships hauling British tea and threw the crates overboard. (2015 BALTIMORE KIDS)
  • Tea Act

    Objective was to reduce the massive amount of tea held by financially troubled British East India Company in its London warehouses and to help the struggling company survive.
  • Coercive Act

    (Intolerable Acts) allowed the east india company to send tea directly to american colonies.
  • The First Continental Congress

    A meeting of delegates from twelve of the Thirteen Colonies that met on September 5 to October 26, 1774 at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • Second Continental Congress

    A convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that started meeting in the summer of 1775. Soon after warfare, declared the American Revolutionary War had begun.

    The first shots were fired just after dawn in Lexington, Massachusetts the morning of the 19th.
  • Common Sense

    A pamphlet written by Thomas Paine advocating independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen Colonies.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    Written by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by the second continental congress states the reasons the British colonies of North America sought independence.
