Boston Tea Party
The Boston tea party was caused by the tax on tea in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. -
Coercive/Intolerable Acts
Coercive/intolerable acts were created because British Parliament were upset about the destruction of British property by American colonists. These acts took away self-government and the rights of Massachusetts that they had had since it was founded. -
First Continental Congress
The first continental congress was put together in reaction to the coercive acts. Although the Continental Congress did not function well in a time of peace, it helped get the nation through a tough time. -
Lexington and Concord
This battle was caused by British troops marching into Concord to seize “an arms cache”. Lexington and Concord was considered a major victory and was the first major military battle of the American Revolution. -
Second Continental Congress
After a fight broke out between Britain and American Colonies, American politicians met in Philadelphia to make the Second Continental Congress. The Second Continental Congress raised armies, directed strategy, and appointed diplomats. -
Declaration of Independence adopted
The Declaration of Independence was adopted to give the American colonies independence. This had a huge impact in the Revolutionary War. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle happened because Britain wanted to discourage American allies to not fight with them in the war. After the American victory, France was confident to enter the war as an American Allie. -
Winter at Valley Forge
The spot of valley forge was used so America could keep an eye on Britain so they did not steal their food. During this winter many soldiers died from disease. -
Battle of Yorktown
The French Army wanted to trap Cornwallis in Yorktown. The effect was Cornwallis surrenders and this ended the American Revolutionary War. -
U.S. Constitution Written
The Constitution was written because of previous failures of governments. The U.S. Constitution set up a system that divided power between states and the government. -
U.S Constitution Adopted
The Constitution was adopted to to form a government and federal laws. The Constitution gave citizens basic rights and established laws.
