  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    The Currency Act was when the colonies had made their own version of money instead of using Britains version. When Britain discovered that the colonies had created their own version of money, Britain proceeded with the Currency Act. The colonial strip was illegal, thus making the colonies exchange with Britain. Then the British reduced the money to the colonies by half and the colonist had to pay double for the products that they were using.

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The colonist were taxed by the British because of imports of goods. The taxes were raised due to the French and Indian war. The colonist viewed this as an increasing payment because of the Molasses Act. The colonist rebelled against it.

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was that every item that was printed on paper would be taxed. The printed items would have to be produce in Britain and stamped with the revenue. The money that was collected by the act was to pay for defending the frontier of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonist viewed this as an attempt to raise money for England without the colonial legislatures approval.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering act was put in place upon the colonist. British soldiers would stay with the colonist in their own houses. If the houses were too small, the soldiers would stay in stables, inns, sellers of wine, and ale houses. Furthermore, the colonist had to hire the soldiers.

  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend act was taxes on imported goods such as tea, paint, glass, lead, paper, etc. The colonist were to make their own goods instead of buying the goods from the British. This event would raise the revenue to pay the salaries of the colonial governors and judges. Thus making sure that the colonies are loyal to the English Crown.

  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The tensions between the colonies and Britain grew. Private Hugh White was the only soldier guarding the Custom House. Then a few colonist had threaten him and threw snowballs at him. As a result, White had called for reinforcements and the bloodshed began. The resentment of the moonlighting, which resulted into 5 deaths of the colonists.

  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tea act was the East India Company, to sell tea directly to the colonist with a cheaper price. However, paying for the tea meant that the colonist were paying taxes that were not approved.

    Boston Tea Party
    A group of men, members of the Sons of Liberty, disgusted as Native Americans, threw 342 chest of tea into the sea. The colonist did this because Britain was imposing "taxation without representation". This event showed Great Britain that the American colonies were not happy paying taxes.

  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    To discipline the colonies, Britain put the Coercive Acts and Quebec Act. The Coercive act was the act of the Boston Harbor shutdown, the MA. legislature, and restricting the right to trial by jury. Only firewood and food were to be imported. The Quebec act was the act of the Catholic Church establish and the official religion of Quebec. During that time, Quebec spread out far as Ohio. This had anger the colonists.
