  • Second Continental Congress

    Delegates came together and decided they needed to prepare for war.
    This is a step towards government of all of the colonies
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    A band of colonists made a surprise attack on Fort Ticonderoga.
    This fort held a lot of weapons, especially cannons, that the American army needed.
  • Bunker Hill

    The purpose was to destroy British ships in the British harbor.
    Even though they lost, it fueled the colonists to get revenge on the British
  • British retreat from Boston

    The British retreat from Boston because they couldn't defend Boston as a British city anymore.
    Their leader did this so their wouldn't be a repeat of Bunker Hill
  • Invasion of Canada

    The objective was to invade Canada, specifically Quebec.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    This is a message to Britain saying that us Americans are free from your rule. This was the birth of our country.
  • Battle of Long Island

    The British drove troops out of Brooklyn and the Americans abandoned all of New York. The British stole a big port for the American trade.
  • Trenton & Princeton

    The Americans surprise attacked both Trenton and Princeton and this inspired more men to join the army.
  • Capture of Philadelphia

    British occupied Philadelphia. They pretty much took the heart of America.
  • Saratoga

    The point of Saratoga was for the British to take all the forts back and ride down the Hudson River. It was a complete failure because the Americans blocked all their paths.
  • French Alliance

    France signed a document saying they would help America because they didn't like Great Britain. This led to Spain helping America also, for the same reason.
  • Valley Forge

    A big encampment for soldiers to survive through the winter in. This definitely tested America's forces and how much we really wanted our freedom.
