  • Writs of Assistance 1751

    Writs of Assistance were first authorized by an act of the English Parliament in 1660 and were issued by the court of Exchequer to help customs search for smuggled official goods. Writs assistance were general search warrants issued to the customs officers by the colonial superior court, but they were first issued/assigned in Massachusetts in 1751 and remained fairly uncontroversial until 1761.
  • Treaty of Paris of 1763

    The document that ended the war between the British and the french that was fought over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended French power in North America and expanded British territory.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    In 1763 at the end of the French and Indian war the British issued a proclamation mainly intended to conciliate the Indians by checking the encroachment of the settlers land. The “NO TRESPASSING” sign was known as the Proclamation Line of 1763.
  • Sugar Act 1764

    The Sugar Act was also called Plantation Act in U.S. colonial history, British legislation aimed at ending the smuggled trade in sugar and molasses from french and Dutch West Indians and at providing increased the Plantations to fund enlarged British Empire responsibilities following the French and Indian war.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    The Stamp act was passed by Parliament on March 22, 1765. The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required to pay a tax for every piece of printed paper they used . Stuff like licenses, newspaper, even playing cards would be taxed.
  • Stamp Act of Congress 1765

    The Stamp Act of Congress, which met in New York City from October 7, 1765, was the first gathering of representatives from several American colonist to deceive a unified protest against British taxation. The cost of fighting the French and Indian War had left Great Britain burdened with an immense debt.
  • Declaratory Act 1766

    The Declaratory Act was actually known as “The American Colonies Act” was an Act of the Parliament of Great British, which accompanied the repeal of the Stamp Act 1765 and the changing and lessening of the Sugar Act.
  • Townshend Act 1767

    The Townshend Act was passed by the Parliament in 1767, that taxed goods imported to the American colonists, who had no representation in Parliament, saw it as an abuse of power, the British also sent troops to America to enforce the unpopular new laws.
  • Boston Massacre 1770

    The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and etc, of British soldiers there were several colonist that were killed and this led to a campaign by speech-writers to rouse the ire of citizens.
  • Boston Tea Party 1773

    The Boston Tea Party happened because of taxation without representation, yet the cause is more of complex than just that the Americans also believed Britain was unfairly taxing them to pay for expenses incurred during the French and Indian War when he happened.
  • Coercive Acts 1774

    The Coercive Act is also known as the Intolerable Act if you did know that the British passed the Intolerable Act as a punishment to all of the Colonists of the British Tea Party. The Intolerable Act were one of the major events in the American Revolutionary War and they united the colonist with /against the British.
  • First Continental Congress

    The very First Continental congress which was comprised of delegates from the colonies met in 1774 in the reaction tot he Coercive act the British government colonies if you didn't know also took response to their resistance to the new taxes law.
  • Battle of Lexington concord and second continental congress

    The Second Continental Congress was met in the year of 1775 only to plan further responses only if the British government had not responded/ repealed or reacted to the acts as expected. But, also if you didn't know the Battle of Lexington Concord the American Revolutionary war had already been started around this time, but the Congress had been called up too take control of the War.
  • Declaration of Independence

    When the Declaration of Independence is going there are many other things going on like Wars and other stuff, but when armed conflict between all bands of American colonists and also the British soldiers when they began in April 1775, the American were also fighting only for their right because they wasn't getting their rights.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill 1775

    On June 17, 1775, early in the Revolutionary War, the British was very eager to defeated the Americans at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. Even though Battle of Bunker Hill loss their battle/ War with the British, the inexperienced colonial forces inflicted significant casualties against the enemy, and the battle provided them with an important confidence boost.
  • American Revolution

    The main reason the American revolution took place was because the British government decided to make the American colonies pay a large share of the war debt from the French and Indian war when that war had took place.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 5, 1775 and signed on the 8th of July in the final attempt to avoid the war that was coming towards them.
  • Navigation Act 1783

    The navigation acts were laws passed to maintain control over colonial trade. The acts made colonists buy English goods and limited trade between the colonies and other countries.
