    On December 16th, 1773, the Sons of Liberty went on 3 British ships and threw 342 crates of tea overboard in protest of taxation without representation. As a result, the Coercive Acts were put into place.

    The Westward Movement began after the Louisiana Purchase. It was where the Europeans began expanding westward, pushing Native Americans further West. Thousands of Native Americans were killed. The Westward Movement took place between 1803 and 1853.

    The War of 1812 was fought between The United States and The United Kingdom. It lasted until March 23rd, 1815. It started because Britain tried to restrict U.S. trade. The war ended at a stalemate, but peace came between the U.S. and Britain for two centuries.

    The Jacksonian Democracy was a movement led by President Andrew Jackson. The movement was for more democracy and for more rights for men. The Jacksonian Democracy lasted for a generation.

    The war was started because of controversy over slavery, states' rights, and expansion westward. It was fought between the Union and the Confederacy. The Civil War lasted until May 9th, 1865.

    The Emancipation Proclamation was an order proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln. It declared that slaves in the south were to be freed. The Emancipation Proclamation turned the war from a fight for the nation to a fight for human freedom. It was issued on January 1st, 1863.

    The Battle Gettysburg was fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, between the Union and the Confederacy. The battle stopped the second confederate invasion by General Robert E. Lee. It ended on July 3rd, 1863.

    The Gettysburg Address was a speech by President Abraham Lincoln on November 11th, 1863. In the speech, Lincoln, connected the want for freedom, and the sacrifices of the Civil War. President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address was given at the ceremony for the National Cemetery of Gettysburg.

    The Reconstruction Era was to rebuild the South after the Union won the Civil War. During reconstruction, the South had to create a new work system that did not revolve around slavery. This era began in 1865 and lasted until 1877.

    On April 14th, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater. The assassination effected reconstruction in the south. The void in leadership was filled by Andrew Jackson, whom took away many rights for colored people.
