The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. and gaurentees the process of equal rights and protection of the laws.
This is significant because it gave people their basic rights a a U.S. citizen. -
Completing the Transcontinental Railroad
A golden spike is driven into a railroad tie at Promontory, Utah, completing the TCRR. Built in just over three years by 20,000 workers, consisting of Irish immigrants, chineese, african-americans, and some U.S. citizens. The track is 1,775 miles long. -
