  • Brown vs Board of Education

    The court ruled that segregated public school were unconstitutional. The Brown case helped the civil rights movement gain power and it served as a source to help improve civil rights in all areas of society.
  • The Montgomery Bus Boycott.

    The MIA organised a 382 day boycott of busses to force an end to segregated transport in Alabama. MIK becomes a prominent leader of the movement.
  • Little rock 9

    the little rock nine was a conflict between nine black students and a mob of activists. The nine students eventually gain access to the school after Martin Luther​ King requested JFK to send military assistance
  • Greensboro sit ins

    the Greensboro sit-ins were a series of peaceful protests in a Woolworths store in Greensboro, North Carolina.
  • Freedom Rides

    The freedom rides were a series of bus rides to southern states to protest against the segregation of interstate​ bus terminals
  • Birmingham Marches

    The Birmingham Marches were a series of peace marches in Birmingham Alabama these peaceful protesters (largely young students) were met with resistance from the Birmingham police who used high-pressure hoses and police attack dogs. The police also arrested thousands of largely peaceful protesters.
  • March on Washington

    the March on Washington was the gathering of over 200,000 people from various political and religious groups. this march is also the place of MLK's famous "I have a dream" speech.
  • Freedom summer

    The Freedom summer was an attempt to increase voting registration in Mississippi. this attempt was met with violence from Mississippi's white population​, the Klu Klux Klan and the Mississippi police.
  • Bloody Sunday

    The bloody Sunday protests were about voting rights and the protesters were attacked by state police.
