  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    Proclamation of Neutrality
    The Proclamation of Neutrality was a formal announcment that was provided by President Gearge Washington. It declared the U.S. neutral in the conflict between Great Britain and France. Legal action was threatened to be taken if anyone supplied either nation with items for war.
  • XYZ Affair

    XYZ Affair
    Do not know the exact dates but I know it was between the years 1797 and 1798 but it would not let me enter it without an exact date so ignore the April 4 part, it is incorrect. While France was at war with Great Britain and during this a treaty between Great Britain and the U.S did not allow France to be guaranteed the option to ship with the U.S. Because of this France sent three diplomats with outrageous demands and they were later reffered to as X,Y and Z. This almost resulted in a war.
  • Convention of 1800

    Convention of 1800
    This ended the Quasi-War between France and the U.S. France Agreed to return the captured ships and the U.S agreed to reimburse it's citizens for 20 million dollar damages caused by France on American shipping. It ended the alliance that they had but secured the trading rights between the two countries.
  • Lousiana Purchase

    Lousiana Purchase
    This document was dated for April 30, 1803 but was signed May 2, 1803. This was a land deal between the U.S and France. It granted the U.S land west of Mississippi River, equaling approximetly 828,000,000 square miles of land, for $15 million.
  • Embargo Act

    Embargo Act
    The embargo act was a ban on general exports from the U.S. It was now illegal to transport goods to other countries. It was made to force France and Great Britain to respect the rights of the American people through the Napoleonic Wars.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The war started on June 18, 1812 and ended February 17, 1815. It was a war between America and Great Britain due to the fact that Britain was tryiong to restrict U.S trade, the Royal Navy's force of putting American sailors in their army, and America's want to expand their territory. It was considered by many a "second war of independence".
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty of Ghent
    This was a peace treaty signed in the city of Ghent that ended the war between America and Great Britain. The treaty stated that all conquered territory had to be returned and commissions would settle the boundary between U.S and Canada.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    This established American dominance of America. It stated that any other attemps made by Europe to colonize land of interfere with states in North and South America would be considered aggression and require American intervention.
