William Mckinley was the 25th president from 1897-1901. Czologosz believed him to be a part of a corrupt government and was executed in the electric chair. He was in his second term as a president. Mr. William was at the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition when an anarchist shot him two times. Eight days later, he passed on.

The Wright brothers Wilbur and Orvillie took their first flight in the air. They used warping technology and wings that changed to do so. On December 17, they successfully took flight. This then led to the invention of the modern day airplane later on.

On March 4th, Mr. Wilson became president. At first he held a policy of neutrality when World War I first happened. Then decided the United States should join the war mainly because he wanted to “make the world safe for democracy.” He was a leader of the Progressive Movement. He was an advocate for women’s suffrage and promised to help African Americans.

World War I began when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated. The Black Hand, from Serbia, were sent to do this. Germany kept on having submarine attacks on both merchant and passenger ships in 1917. This motivated Woodrow Wilson’s decision to join the war. On April 2, 1917, America joined the war.

The Germans sank the Lusitania ship due to the world war. A U-boat came up and hit the starboard. The ship was sunk in 18 minutes killing over 1,000 people. This event made Americans want to join the war because Americans died on the boat.

President Woodrow Wilson was motivated to go to war because the Germans kept on sinking ships Americans were on. The United States joined the Allies. Britain, France, and Russia were included in the Allies as well. On April 4th, the US Senate voted in favor of declaring war on Germany.

The Treaty of Versailles helped to end WWI. Germany surrendered on November 18, 1918. All nations wanted peace in the negotiation. Germany and the Allied Nations signed the treaty which ended the war.

During this time, alcohol was a problem. It was destroying marriages, families and abuse was occurring. Women thought marriage troubles happened by drinking alcohol. It also was a concern for public health.The Prohibition prohibited sale, transportation, and manufacture of alcohol.
