  • Alexander Graham Bell

    Alexander Graham Bell
In 1876, at the age of 29, Alexander Graham Bell invented his telephone. This was a new technology that made it easier for people to communicate. It also was bad because there was only one line so everyone could here or listen to each others conversations
  • Thomas Edison

    Thomas Edison
It is unclear how many times Thomas Edison failed in his tests before he invented the first practical, long lasting light bulb but it is widely accepted that he tried thousands of times before he discovered the best filament to use.
There are other inventors at the time who were also developing light bulbs but it was Thomas Edison who got it to the finish line. If it wasn’t for him we would still be using oil to light up candles.
  • The Hamil Brothers

The Hamill brothers--Al, Jim, and Curt--were well known in East Texas. Most folks were using cable tools to drill wells, but the Hamills were having success with a new tool called a rotary drill. The drilling team arrived in town on October 1, 1900. From there they worked day and night to discover oil. I think its important because without oil we wouldn’t be able to do the things like drive, or by putting them in machines.
  • Automobile

    Automobile
Henry Ford was determined to build a simple, reliable and affordable car; a car the average American worker could afford. Instead of pocketing the profits; Ford lowered the price of his car. As a result, Ford Motors sold more cars and steadily increased its earnings - transforming the automobile from a luxury toy to a mainstay of American society. By 1914, Ford could claim a 48% share of the automobile market. This made transportation easier and dangerous because it was new for America.
  • World War 1

    World War 1
World War 1, also known as the First World War or the Great War and the War to End All Wars, was a world conflict lasting from 1914 to 1919, with the fighting lasting until 1918. The war started with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. This is important because a lot of young men took their lives for our country and others.
  • Prohibition

    Prohibition
Wilson's position of moderation was sometimes called "temperance" or "true temperance," but this can be a bit confusing because many of the groups that supported full prohibition called themselves "temperance" groups. Likewise the term “wet” or “wets” will refer to those who opposed prohibition while “dry” or “drys” were those who supported prohibition. Without the Volstead Act, the 18th amendment had no teeth, and without the 18th amendment the Volstead Act was unnecessary. During that time I
