  • Black Land Act

    Black Land Act
    The enactment of this law prevented blacks from living where they pleased. Areas were set aside for blacks, and this is the only place they could live. These areas were often in very poor condition and could not support the large population of blacks coming in to them. This act is significant because it visualizes the apartheid and severe segregation that was widespread at the time.
  • Industrial Conciliation Act No 11

    Industrial Conciliation Act No 11
    This act ensured that Whites could always get jobs first. It prevented blacks from joining trade unions, and prohibited black trade unions from registration. Basically this law prevented blacks from obtaining many good jobs that had a steady income, and made many blacks question their job security. This is significant because it prevented blacks from bettering themselves by restricting their jobs and in thus their economic capabilities.
  • Development Trust and Land Act No 18

    Development Trust and Land Act No 18
    Any places where Blacks live where they are not suppose to be living can be completely evacuated of Whites. This law allows Natives who have lived in a certain area for an extended amount of time to be easily removed. This creates despair within the Black population in their life.
  • Alien Act No 1

    Alien Act No 1
    This law was aimed at minorities entering the country, especially Jewish people. Prohibited the people from having a surname. It creates the sense of family, but this act prohibits surnames engendering disconnection between the people groups in South Africa. Didnt want assimilation
  • Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act

    Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act
    This apartheid law prohibited marriages between different races and ethnicity. Its goal was to preserve the white race, as well as keeping other races separate. Was basically designed to keep everyone with their own races sexually.
  • Group Areas Act No 41

    Group Areas Act No 41
    This act was designed to assign different racial groups to differential residential and business sections in urban areas. One effect was to keep nonwhites from living in the most developed areas, which were white only. Basically kept races from intertwining.
  • Separate Representation of Voters

    Separate Representation of Voters
    This law removed the right of black voters in the Cape Province to vote in ordinary elections, and allowed them to instead to elect four people in segregated elections. Was a deliberate process to remove all non-white people from the voters roll and revoke the Cape Qualified Franchise system
  • Black (Native) Laws

    Black (Native) Laws
    This law limited the category of blacks who had the right to permanent residence in urban areas. With these stricter enforcement and regulations on blacks, many were forcibly removed from urban areas in an effort to keep the white population separate and pure.
  • General Law Amendment Act

    General Law Amendment Act
    This act allowed a police officer to arrest people without a warrant if they were believed to be involved in a politically motivated crime. This helped prevent a formal group from rising against the government as they would be immediately arrested. Gave police to arrest almost anyone
  • Black Labor Act No 67

    Black Labor Act No 67
    This says that the laws for the blacks being recruited, employed, accommodated, fed, and controlled health conditions will be consolidated. While this law seems great, it may be used to make all working conditions for Blacks poor and unsafe.
