    Pre-school through 5th grade Speech

Growing up I had an IEP for speech. I had problems with blended sounds, digraphs and other sounds like w, s, and r. Sometimes, people had a difficult time understanding me and sadly I had to stop once I was done with 5th grade due to not having the resources at the middle school.
  • 4th grade Reading

    4th grade Reading

My 4th grade teacher was a 1st year teacher EVER in a school district that did not have a certain curriculum to follow at the time for ELA. We did not have any small groups either, it was more whole class learning since it was based on what ever the teacher wanted to teach us at the time. However, I do remember that I enjoyed reading to myself but not out loud due to being self-conscious about my speech impairment and going on our weekly classroom visits to the school library.
  • 5th grade Reading

    5th grade Reading

My 5th grade teacher was on her second year of teaching EVER. I remember that we were always doing different types of book reports on the different genres of books throughout the year along with listening to our teacher read us a class novel during pack up times, snack time and any extra time. We also used a textbook called Houghton Mifflin which was our ELA and writing curriculum that the school had purchased for the teachers to use.
  • Pizza Hut Book IT Program

    Pizza Hut Book IT Program

I remember doing this program through my school. My Book IT program was based on how many minutes I read each month. My teachers at the time had a goal for me to reach a certain amount of minutes based on my reading abilities/level. I remember I would always want to reach my goal so that I could receive my personal pan pizza. I would go to the location closest to my house in and they would hang my certificate up on the wall for everyone to see and it was just fun family time.
  • 6th Grade Literature

    6th Grade Literature

This school year was a big change for me because we had an actual curriculum and had to read the required books for the grade level. We had different assessments over our comprehension and had to do different types of book reports as well. The main book I remember reading was Lord of the Flies. Also, we only went to the school library maybe once a month during this grade, if we really wanted to go we had to go during homeroom, lunch or during passing periods.
  • Book Fairs

    Book Fairs

I was always super excited when these book fairs came to my schools. I remember I would always have these really long wish list of books that I would want during the class preview time and I would get my mom to come to the after school book fair time so that she could buy some of the books that I really wanted. To this day, I still get excited when I see them so that I can start gathering books for my own classroom and family.
  • 7th Grade Literature

    7th Grade Literature

I had the same ELA teacher from 6th grade move up with us to 7th grade so this was my second year with this teacher. She ran her class very similar to how she did in 6th grade besides that the required texts changed. Sadly, this was when I stopped going to the library to look for cool new books and only went if I needed a book for something else or if there was a book fair. I still loved to read but was slowly becoming to busy with time that I couldn't read for fun anymore.
  • 8th grade Literature

    8th grade Literature

I remembered that we read a lot of different books throughout the year but the one that stood out to me was The Diary of Anne Frank. I also remember that we watched 'The boy in the stripe pajamas' after reading the diary. A way for the teacher to tell if we were following along was by doing popcorn reading during the readings. I still had the same LOVE for reading that I had all throughout elementary school in middle school.
  • Intrapersonal, Interpersonal and Building a community

Intrapersonal, Interpersonal and Building a community

Intrapersonal: I enjoyed reading the required books by myself up until I got to high school and I also enjoyed getting myself new books and reading for fun!
Interpersonal: I liked having the book discussions with my classmates about the different books, learning about all the different genres and listening to the read a louds.
Building a community: We would present our book reports to the school like when we pretended to be a character from the book.
  • Future goals for my own class

Future goals for my own class

To try to instill my love for reading into each and every student in my class. To have a classroom full of different style of books, levels and genres so that all my students have the opportunity to find a book that they are interested in and to promote CHOICE. To promote active reading and listening in my classroom. To help my students find a book, author or genre that they enjoy reading to have more active readers. To create a welcoming/caring environment for my students.
