The French and Indian war ended with the treaty of Paris and soon after the colonist began to be taxed in ways they never had before. -
The sugar act was a heavy tax on sugar, molasses and other imported products in the colonies as an attempt to raise funds. The colonists were frustrated by this act and it became the first spark of the revolution because the colonists did not feel represented for what they were being taxed for. -
The stamp act was another heavy tax on the colonists but this time for all papers or official documents in the Americas, however these taxes were not in England. This angered the colonists who were already frustrated by the sugar act so they quickly acted to oppose the unfair taxing. -
This act gave England the ability to tax the colonies without giving them representation in Parliament. This angered the colonists because it threatened their independence in a new way. -
The townshend act was initiating another tax but this time on glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. The colonists began to use the phrase “no taxation without representation” a lot more after this. -
This act was the final spark or the revolution. The heavy tax on tea was the last thing the colonists needed to take major action. This act resulted in colonists dumping 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor out of anger. -
Due to all the harsh taxes invoked by the British Government, the colonist revolted against the British for their independence.
