  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    In the 'Sugar Act' sugar and molasses were taxed , the reasoning on why the British need the money is because they needed to pay debts from the French and Indian War. The colonist were not happy and this whole situation led to the slogan "NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!". This slogan meant that Parliament shouldn't be allowed to tax the Americans without their consent. The communications group "Commitees of Correspondence" was the result.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    During the Stamp Act all types of paper such as; licenses, playing cards, contracts, etc. The british needed the money to pay debts from the French and Indian War. The colonists weren't okay with it, the secret society that resulted to this was the Sons of Liberty , the secret society tried to frighten tax collectors. The London merchants pressured parliament to repeal the Stamp Act , however,the London merchants lost money because of Colonial boycotts.However, the Stamp Act was finally repealed

    The Townshed Acts
    During the Townshed Acts glass, lead, paint,paper, and tea were taxed; the British needed the money to pay debts from the French adn Indian War the colonist were no where near ok with this new tax. It caused for the illegal activity of smuggling and attacks on tax collectors to increase. Therefore, British troops were sent to restore order in Boston.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The British troops were in Boston to restore order after the Townshed Acts caused attacks on tax collectors. In all the cauios five died in the Massacre. Crispus Attucks was an African-American who died in the Massacre. John Adams and Josiah Quincy defended the British soliders. Most of the soliders were found not guilty however, two were guilty of manslaughter. The colonist were VERY ANGRY at the British
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Parliament repealed most taxes however they kept the tax on tea.Parliament agreed to allow the East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonists to make money by charging low prices and to reduce illegal smuggling. The colonial merchants were against the Tea Act because they were afraid they'd be put out of business by cheap British Tea. The Sons of liberty demanded that the tea ships leave Boston Harbor, all the tea was thrown into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Boston Tea Party caused Parliament to pass the Coercive Acts. The effects of the Intolerable Acts is that the Boston harbor was closed, Massachusetts colonial charter was cancelled, trials of corrupt royal offcicials would be held in Britian, colonists required to house british soliders, land was taken from the colonies and given to Quebec, Boston was put under military rule, by Gen. Thomas Gage. Another fact is that Quebec is modern-day Canada.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    They meet in Philadelphia and Georgia did not send a representitive. The twp results of the first continental congress is it encouraged colonists to continue boycotts and they sent 'Declaration of rights' to king Geore III. The goal of congress was to state the colonists' concerns and ask the king to correct the problems. The first continental cpngress agreed that they would meet again in 1775 to discuss what to do if this happened.
