  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763

    The end of the French and Indian Wars. The lost made France give up a large amount of valuable land. The problem arose with the colonies being ready to move further into the New World. But the British believed that it would be difficult to control their colonies with the added space. But the colonies wouldn't stand for it, with their blood being shed in the war, they felt it was only fair they got to indulge in the winnings. So they moved west.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act

    The act as stated in the name taxes sugar and molasses, with its goal being to end the smuggling of sugar from non-British merchants putting a three penny tax on it. The people of the colonies protested this act and within two year the tax would be lowered.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act

    The act forbids the use of paper bills, the act was used to take economic control of the 13 colonies. The colonies were already struggling with money and the government was forbidding them from using paper.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The act would tax a multitude of items with the stamp being placed upon them. The people of the colonies were mad with the lack of money, they couldn't pay the tax. So, they began to boycott items and smuggle them through the sea.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    Quartering Act of 1765

    The act forced the American people to feed, cloth, and shelter the soldiers of the British Empire. The colonies were not on board with this act at all, this pushed cost of soldiers onto the growing colonies.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act

    This act declared that the English Parliament had the same power to tax the American colonies just the same as the people of Great Britain. The American people saw that this act as Parliament trying to put their foot down, stating they had all the power.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act

    The act was split into four different acts. But it places taxes on items like glass, lead, and paint. It also allowed the regulation of trade. The people of the colonies began to verbally disagree, which turn into physical altercations.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre

    The British had supporters in the colonies. But they were disliked by most of the people that they were surrounded by. They ask for protection and so Parliament placed the 14th and 29th regiments into Boston. The colonies heard rumors of soldiers cutting down the Liberty Tree. So, a group turned into a mob and the 29th regiment was stormed, and snow, hail, and oyster shells were thrown. One soldier fired on accident, and then more followed thinking it was a order.

    Boston Tea Party

    The East Tea Company sent ships full of tea to the colonies, and with the tax on tea the people were not happy. People were so outraged that patriots boarded the ships disguised as Indians. They processed to dump all the tea that they could, all as an act to defy the tax.
  • Intolerable acts

    Intolerable acts

    The act was put in placed in response to the colonies standing up against them. It created administration that would control the land that was won in the French and Indian Wars. This repeated placement of acts that tried to suppress the Americans end up justifying them banding together to create the Continental Congress.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act

    The act would affect the people in Canada which would create a government for them and would join their Empire even if they were French.
  • Quartering Act of 1774

    Quartering Act of 1774

    The act built upon the first quartering act of 1765, with higher ranking officers having the ability to demand better living conditions if needed. The colonies were not happy with these arrangements as it put further economic strain on them.
