    Coffee is banned in Mecca

    Coffee was banned by religous leaders because they weren't sure if it should be considered the same as alcohol which muslims considered wrong to consume. This was the first known attempt to ban coffee.
  • Dr. Simon Pauli opposes tea.

    This German doctor was the physician to the king of Denmark.He said that there were some medical benefits, but that it didn't outweigh the bad.
  • First coffee house in London is opened

    The first coffee house in London was opened by Pasqua Rosee. He was an Armenian who was eventually forced out of the country.
  • Rum is substituted for Beer on Royal Navy Ships

    Beer was the what they gave the soldiers until they changed it to rum. Rum was mixed with water to make the alcohol content lower.
  • The British East India companies first shipment of tea

    They started shipping tea in small amounts, but then increased as demand grew larger. This helped push teas popularity.
  • King Charles II suppresses the coffee houses

    King Charles II issued a "Proclamtion for the Suppression of Coffee-houses". This was short lived and ignored so he issued another proclamation that said they could stay open under certain conditions.

    The Dutch East India company opens coffee plantations in Java. The Arabian coffee couldn't compete with their prices.
  • First tea graden opens in Britain

    This tea garden was called Vauxhall Gardens. Tea gardens were places were you drank tea and met members of the opposite sex.
  • Molasses Act is passed

    The Molasses act was a tax put on America by the British that taxed all the molasses that came from a foreign country. Molasses is used to make rum.
  • The French Revolution is set in motion

    At Cafe de Foy Camille Desmoulins gathers a crowed. They spoke of revolution and soon after the French Revolution began.
  • Washington opens distilleries

    George washington opened two distilleries. There were five by the time he died in 1799.
  • East India Company loses its monopoly in China

    East India Company had a monopoly on trade with China. The monopoly was removed by the government in 1834.
  • Coca-Cola formula is finished

    John Pemberton Finishes the formula for Coca-Cola.
  • First ad for Coca-Cola is released

    Frank Robinson designed the ad. The ad came out in the Atlanta Journal.
  • Coca-Cola is put on trial

    The trial was titled "The United States v. Forty Barrels and Twenty Kegs of Coca-Cola". They claimed that caffiene was bad for children and even tested it on animals. The trial ended with the decision that the only thing Coca-Cola can't do is put children directly in their ads.
  • Arab League boycotts Coca-Cola

    The boycott was because Coca-Cola was going to start bottling in Israel. The Arab League didn't stop boycotting until late 1980's.
  • New Coke is introduced

    New Coke was supposed to taste like Pepsi. Sales did horribly and they reintroduced original Coke.

    During the Tang dynasty in China there is a tax put on tea. This shows the teas popularity.
