  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in his car when he was driven over The Latin Bridge in Sarajevo. Both him and his wife were shot by a poistol. Him and his wife were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. The assassination is what started world war one.

    Australia Started Recruiting men to assist Britan against Germany in World War One on August 1914. In victoria,112,399 people were recruited. As a nation a total of 416, 809 men were recruited. This was 38.7% of the Australian population at that time. There were many advertisements displayed around Australia in order to persuade men to join the army.

    The First Landing
    It is believed that the ANZACs landed on the wrong beach. ANZAC Cove has a very rough terrain. The Australian 3rd brigade boarded the landing boats just before three am. They then rowed to the shore. At four thrty am the first boats landed. The turkish soliders werer armed and ready, stationed on the cliffs high above the shore. The turkish soldiers took action at four thirty eight am and fired on the ANZACs. The battle of Gallipoli had begun.

    The battle of Lone Pine started as part of the landing and lasted untill the 3rd of may. This battle was part of the Gallipoli Campaign which was an attempt to secure the Dardanells.
  • ANZACs evacuate Gallipoli

    ANZACs evacuate Gallipoli
    on the 13th of november 1915 at about 1:40pm, a boat arrived on one of the beaches in gallipoli. onboard was; Field Marshal Lord Kitchener whom was Commander in Chief of the British Army. He spent 2 hours surveying the turkish trenches from ANZAC Trenches inland of the Sphinx and Lone Pine. two days laater he rquested to the British War Cabinet should withdrawl/ evacuate all ANZACs from Gallipoli. first fifteen thousand people left galliopol and the rest left on the 18th to 20th december 1915.
  • End of World War One

    End of World War One
    On the 11th of November 1918 leaders of both the Allies and the Germans had a meeting in Ferdinand Foch's railway carriage. It was in this meeting that the Armistice was signed at six am and came into force 5 hours later ending World War One.
    By the end of World War one 58,961 men had died, 166,811 men wounded and 4,098 men were missing or prisoners of war.
