  • 5:45 am

    5:45 am – Hijackers (Mohammed Atta and Abdulaziz al-Omari) cleared security at Portland International Jetport in Maine. Atta breached the cockpit and killed two American Airlines pilot. Then he overtook the plane (Flight 11). Later he crashed into the north tower.

  • 7:35 am

    7:35 am – Hijackers (Nawaf al-Hazmi and Salem al-Hazmi) cleared the security at Washington Dulles airport.

  • Takeoff - all flights

    7:59 am – Flight 11 takes off.
    8:14 am – Flight 175 takes off with 51 passengers and 5 hijackers onboard. The plane was on the way to Manhattan.
    8:20 am – American Airlines Flight 77 takes off from Washington Dulles International Airport.
    8:42 am - Flight 93 takes off after a lengthy air traffic delay. The flight was supposed to take off at 8:00 am from Newark.

  • 8:24 am

    8:24 am – Mohammed Atta mistakenly contacts the traffic control. “We have some planes. Just stay quiet and you will be OK".

  • 8:37 am

    8:37 am – After hearing Atta’s transmissions, Peter Zalewski contacts Northeast Air Defense Sector.

  • 8:46 am

    8:46 am - New York Police Department and The Fire Department of New York takes action within seconds of Flight 11’s crash.

  • George Bush

    8:50 am - George Bush was alerted that the nation was under attack.
    9:05 am - The president George Bush was informed that a second plane hit The World Trade Center.

  • 8:55 am

    8:55 am - The people in the south tower were instructed that it was safe and that they should stay in the building.

  • 8:59 am

    8:59 am - Some passengers onboard the hijacked Flight 175 contacts people on the ground as the plane approaches the World Trade Center.

  • Evacuation

    • 9:02 am - The people in the south tower were ordered to evacuate.
    • 9:15 am - Evacuation of the World Trade Center.
    • 9:30 am - The New York City Office of Emergency Management evacuates their headquarters.
    • 9:36 am - Secret Service agents evacuate the Vice President at the White House.
    • 9:45 am - People begin to evacuate at the White House and Capitol building.
    • 11:02 am - The Mayor of New York calls for the evacuation of people on Manhattan.

  • 9:42 am

    9:42 am - The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) grounds all flights in USA.

  • 9:57 am

    9:57 am - Some passengers onboard Flight 93 alerted their loved ones that the plane is hijacked.

  • Crases and collapses

    • 8:46 am - Flight 11 crash into floors 93-99 of the World Trade Center’s north tower.
    • 9:03 am - Flight 175 crash into the south tower.
    • 9:37 am - Hijackers crash Flight 77 into the Pentagon western facade.
    • 9:59 am - The South Tower collapsed after it burned in 56 minutes.
    • 10:03 am - Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania because the hijackers were afraid if the passengers could retake the plane.
    • 10:15 am - Pentagons E ring collapses.
    • 10:28 am - The north tower collapses.

    After 9/11

    After 9/11, George W. Bush sends several soldiers to join the war in Afghanistan.
    Islamophobia became much more common among ordinary people. Many people were afraid of terrorism. 9/11 changed many people's relationship to Muslims.

  • 5:20 pm

    5:20 pm - World Trade Center Building 7 collapses after burning for hours.

  • Osama Bin Laden's letter and reason for the attack.

    In Osama Bin Laden's "Letter to America", wrote that al-Qaeda's motives for their attacks include that USA helps many countries to kill Muslims for example the Muslims in Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
