    Timeline of

  • Sopwith Tabloid

    Sopwith Tabloid
The Tabloid was originally a sports aircraft but was later used for military purposes. It was the first Spowith plane built and was named Tabloid because of its tiny body size. It had a top speed of 87mph and was loaded with a machine gun and also a bomb. It was only built for one person and was a very small plane. Problems with the Tabloid included the extreme weight for such a minute plane and poor range and maximum height capability.
  • Sopwith Camel

    Sopwith Camel
The Camel was a single-seater plane built like the Sopwith Tabloid and was a very important war plane. It had built in twin Vicker machine guns which were the best of its time and had an impressive tp speed of 118mph. The Camel was made out of aluminium which meant it was very manoeuvrable. However there were many problems with the Camel. It had no back landing gear which made the landing very rough, so if you survived the war, you most likely would have died by crash landing.
  • Hawker Duiker

    Hawker Duiker
The Hawker Duiker was the first plane made by Hawker. It was very fast for a first plane and had a top speed of 125 mph. Only one was made as the plane was very unsuccessful and unusual, and had no weapons or landing gears. It was a very large plane and was extremely heavy and didn't make it far off the ground. Overall, the Duiker was an unsuccessful plane but one that could be revamped by Hawker and made much better.
  • Hawker Hart

    Hawker Hart
The Hart was a main biplane aircraft for the RAF during the inter war period, but it was already substituted by the second world war for better monoplane designs. It was used by many foreign nations such as Estonia and Yugoslavia. There were many major variants of the hart one was navalised for aircraft carriers. Some of the main variants were the: Audax, Demon, Hardy, Hind and the Osprey. The Osprey being the navalised one.
  • Hawer fury

    Hawer fury
The Fury was a fast and agile biplane during the interwar period. It was the first interceptor in RAF service to fly over 200 miles per hour its top speed being 223 mph ( at 16500ft) It was the counterpart to the hawker hart light bomber. It had 2 Mk 4 vickers machine guns - 600 rpg.
  • Hawker Hurricane

    Hawker Hurricane
The Hurricane was the first plane to exceed the speed of 300mph. Although the hurricane was extremely overshawdowed by the Spitfire it played a much bigger role in the battle of Britain. in comparison to the spitfire the hurricane was easier to repair and put back in to the air after a crash however the spit fire had to be taken back to a garage to be fixed. The hurricane accounted for 60% of the RAF's air victories in battle and also served in all 3 major theatres of the war.
  • Hawker Typhoon

    Hawker Typhoon
The Typhoon was a replacement for the Hurricane as a medium-high altitude interceptor but it had many problems which meant it was not very good at its job. in 1941 the German Nazi air force - the Luftwaffe - put the Focke-Wulf FW 190 into service. The typhoon was the only plane that could keep up with it at low altitude so it became a low altitude interceptor as opposed to its earlier job as a medium-high altitude interceptor.
  • Hawker Typhoon (continued)

    Hawker Typhoon (continued)
It was equipped with 12 machine guns, a few bombs and - later on in the war - RP3 ground attack rockets. With the bombs and the ground attack rockets the typhoon became one of the most successful ground-attack aircrafts in the whole war.
  • Hawker Tempest

    Hawker Tempest
The Tempest was an improvement to the typhoon. By changing the wing to a thin laminar flow design the Tempest came out as one of the most powerful fighters in the war. IT was armed with 4 cannons, 2 1000lb bombs, 2 drop tanks and after the war RP-3 rockets were added to its arsenal.
  • Hawker Hunter

    Hawker Hunter
The Hawker Hunter was the fastest plane of its day at 727.63mph - the land speed record. It was used for a variety of different things, starting as a fighter aircraft but moving on to being a fighter-bomber, reconnaissance plane. It was also used in RAF displays and was used by the "Black Arrows" and the "Blue Diamonds".It was primarily used by the RAF, the Indian Air Force, the Swiss Air Force and the Swedish Air Force.
  • Hawker Siddeley Vulcan

    Hawker Siddeley Vulcan
The Vulcan was a jet powered delta wing strategic bomber. The B1 and B1A carried either a Blue Danube or Yellow Sun nuclear bomb or 21 conventional bombs. This was Britains First nuclear weapon (The blue danube). The blue danube contained "green grass" - a large pure fission warhead of 400kt yield.
  • Hawker Harrier

    Hawker Harrier
The Harrier was a very important plane as it was the first plane that did not need a runway to take-off or land - its thrusters could turn downards so they could take off straight up but this was only used if completely necessary because it used a lot of fuel. It was used by a lot of countries including USA, Spain, India and even Thailand.
