13th amendment
This amendment is prohibiting slavery. This is giving the North what it wants but is going to cause alot of issues with the South. There is going to be segregation and a lot of rules to the black people. -
US aquires Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million
Now we have another state that can give us alot more resources. It has alot of oil and will help our economy. We keep gathering more land which will help us in the future. -
Fourteenth amendment ratified.
This amendment is defining citizenship. Its going to make it harder for immigrants to come to the united states and become a citizen. Also, you have to have certain requirements to become a citizen and know certain things about the country. This may cause problems because now people are going to come to America illegaly. -
Central Pacific and Union Pacific raildroads connected in Utah, start creating transcontinental railroad.
Now that the railroads are connected trade will be easier. Also this is another way to get very far much quicker. It will help us send messages and trade with people and make the process much faster. -
Fifteenth amendment ratified
This amendment makes sure government doesnt discrimenate and allows people of different races to vote. This is going to make elections tougher because more people will be voting. -
Yellow Stone National Park
This kept Americas beauty. It kept this national park safe from being destroyed or having people moving there. -
Civil rights act passed
This act would of gave African Americans equal treatment in public places. It would allowed black and white people to all be allowed in the same places. This didnt take place until the 1960s. -
First telephone line is built.

Statue of Liberty adopted accepted
This is now an icon for the United States. People let this represent our counrty and look at this with lots of meaning. -
Ellis Island
This becomes chief immigration station in the US. Immigrants would travel to Ellis Islan which is in NY when coming from another country. Alot of Americans ancestors had arrived there. -
Wrights brother have the first flight.
They were the first people to have the first controlled sustained flight in heavier-than-air aircraft at Kitty Hawk, N.C. Flying is now going to be a new form of transportation. Its going to be faster to get further distances. -
Meat inspection
Now they are going to insure sanitary conditions. Now that meat is going to be inspected people may be getting sick less and less people could be dying. -
16th amendment
This gave congress the power to tax. This is now taking money from the people so it is going to cause controversy. -
Panama Canal opens for traffic
Now people can actually use this. Its going to be a way of transportation and for trade and will greatly help our economy. Also it makes things alot easier. -
The Panama Canal
This is going to allow trade in new areas. Also, this is now a new way of transportation that can help. -
FIrst long distance telephone service
Now this is a new way to get messages passed along. Instead of waiting a long time to pass a message along we can recieve news faster. -
US enters WW1
Now the united states is in war. Some people are going to agree and others disagree. We declare war on Germany and Austria Hungary. -
Selective Service Act
This created the draft. Now peole are going to be drafted into the military without a choice. This is going to gaurentee a bigger military and make us stronger. -
18th amendment
This amendment prohibited the sale and manufacture of liquor. This brings up alot of problems because now people are going to sell liquor illegaly. -
19th amendment
This is giving women the right to vote. This is a huge change because women have been fighting for this for years.
